A Hot New Year...

...well, that's what they're saying, hot, hot, hot for new years eve in the city, high 30s ! At last, summer seems to have arrived, but in the meantime here's my girl in Minneapolis yesterday...

...you can tell she's a proud Aussie, she called the snowman Bruce. She's loving the snow although she says this layering clothes business is hard work AND she thought at one stage her nose had fallen off!! It hadn't of course, just very cold :o)

Anyway, back to our heat. It was a beautiful day today, sun shining and a slight breeze, just right for some photo's of my garden....

The rose on this arch is called Apple Blossom, it's a one hit wonder, only flowers once, but what a wonder it is. The flowers last for about four/six weeks I guess and it's just magnificent...

...it's very photogenic...

I wish we had smelly computer, you know, scratch and sniff type thing, then you could enjoy the heavenly perfume of this....

...Philadelphus or the Mock Orange Blossom, it's perfume is heavy in the air all around the shrub, gorgeous.

this is a little Penstamon, I can't remember which variety. We've got quite a lot of these around the garden in different pinks and purples, good colour dotted around the place.

Pierre de Ronsard, the showy princess of the climbers, blooms so heavy and tight they have to hang their heads...

..and a lovely quiet corner, no showy flowers here at the moment, just quiet greens and an old pakoda ornament.

This is no garden ornament though....

..just a little trouble maker who had her day at the vets yesterday for her desexing and microchipping, she was a bit sore and sorry last night but back to normal this morning. Guess the man will need a new pair of slippers...! She's found her voice too in the last few days and for a little ball of fluff she's got the deepest, funniest bark. We just crack up laughing when she barks, she's like a teenage boy with a breaking voice..!

Nothing much bothers Miss Martha on a warm day though...

..she knows the best place to be.....!!

Looking forward to ...........

............great things in 2011. More quilts, more sewing, more puppy kisses, more days with special friends and more time with my gorgeous family..!
Did you all have a great Christmas? I did. Two fabulous days full of family and great friends, great food, good wine, great company...perfect!! Mum and Dad didn't make it for Christmas or Boxing Day this year, Dad had a fall a week ago and cracked a rib so is still sore and stiff but improving everyday..thank goodness! Mum finds it hard to cope when Dad's not making the decisions and she's had a rough week too. She won't leave the house without him and can't even write a shopping list anymore, Dad had to do it so that Bec could do their shopping for them. We saw them twice on Christmas day though, once in the morning then later in the afternoon when we took their Christmas dinner over to them, can't have Dad missing out on his turkey and pork..!

This little girl had a fabulous time with the house full of visitors yesterday....

...and the games you can get up to with bits of fancy wrapping are endless...

These.......

..were greatly appreciated and loved..!

I can't show you the top one yet as it's still waiting to be given (Sarah is in Minneapolis for the next two weeks having a white Christmas) and won't get opened until the end of January, but I can show you the others now....

Bec and Tony were thrilled with this....

...Chris and Anastasia loved this one too....

..and David adored this one..

Elaine look, I love this block...!!

The big guy in the red suit was pretty generous in our house too, he left me a nice little bundle of cash for fabric shopping (you've gotta love a man that knows what you want..!) he also brought me the Hairy Bikers, well.... not them actually, which is just as well as they're a bit big for my lounge room! The DVDs of their shows which is just as good..
The man in my life got a new laptop and some tickets to see Dr Zhivago, the new musical starts in April in Melbourne with Anthony Warlow (you'll know him if you're an Aussie) so we're looking forward to that..

Just to finish off here's a photo from the Christmas breakup up lunch with the Thursday patchwork group, left to right...

Merry Christmas............

I can't see that there will be much of this over the Christmas holiday, it's raining again and the forecast is for a wet week to come.

I won't be back here until after Christmas and possibly the New Year, there are things I have to deal with, things I have to sort before they take on titanic proportions and become too big to put right. I'm fine and my family are all well and healthy, it's something personal to me and it's sucked the spirit of Christmas out of me...

From me to you, wherever you are, whether you're battling the cold or the heat, the rain or the snow, thank you for being with me this year, your friendship has blown me away..!

However you say it Merry Christmas from my house in the country to your house in your country....

I told you she wasn't innocent didn't I..................

..but I don't think you believed me..

..well, here's the proof....

..decided that we really quite like the rain, especially when it's dripping off the trees onto the garden and we can try catching the drips as they hit the ground.....!!!

Getting there.....

Slowly, but definitely getting there. I've been locked in my sewing room this last week trying to get these four quilts finished. These two are finished except for hand stitching the binding down...

...this one is ready to start quilting....

...and the fourth, well that's another story..!! I'm still working on that one, but I don't really have to have it finished until the middle of January so I have a little grace on that. I'm still not comfortable with machine quilting but I do see the advantages, I at least have a chance of getting some quilts finished as opposed to hand quilting and still having them as UFOs. I'm reasonably happy with the way the first two have turned out, nothing fancy, just outline and a bit of cross hatching, but hey, they're finished...!! That's good right..?
I haven't even started Christmas decorating and the rain, well, we're not talking about that. At least we're just very, very soggy and waterlogged, we're not stranded and flooded out like a lot of my blogging friends, with more rain forecast for this week I think we're all over it. Yes, I'm complaining about the rain, I don't care how terrible that is, I just want it to stop for a while..!!
What else have I been doing do I hear..? Well, yes, this little lady has been keeping me very busy.....

..hhmmm, I see my mug coaster behind her, honestly this isn't the face of innocence! This is the 'what mischief can I get up to now?' face...

...this is the only time she's quiet, sheer exhaustion makes her stop, usually she drops where she is and we have to step over her. If I'm sewing however she chooses the bed next to the computer desk, you can see she's taken it over, placed her belonging in it too..!

OK, enough chatter, gotta go sew..! I'll see you when I've finished these quilts...sigh..!!
