Canterbury....

On Sat, I left Orvieto and traveled back up to Fiumicno airport with Sue, her Dad, and the three American girls, Carolyn, Linda and Kathy and we each went our respective international ways. I flew to Gatwick to start the UK leg of my holiday. I picked up a hire car on Sunday morning and headed down to Ramsgate to see Marguerite....

unfortunately I was only able to stay with her one night but we made the most of the day and night...

after a cuppa and a chat we took off for Canterbury......

a beautiful city full of history....

and charm.....

the skyline and city dominated by the imposing and brilliant Cathedral...

at once quiet but alive with history...

with small chapels within the building...

gorgeous stonework attesting to the quality of work from the stonemasons that gave their whole working lives to this building...

this roof decoration is in one of the cloisters and as always, I can see quilt patterns here...   :o)

the green man is present in most early Christian churches, it was seen as a way to attract the 'pagans' to Christianity....

the winged lion, not sure what the symbolism here is but it sure is beautiful...

around every corner there was another vista to fill my viewfinder with....

a wonderful city, full of life, but with a quiet and serene core, the heart of which is the magnificent Cathedral...

after all that we had to have a cream tea....!

and very nice it was too...!

gorgeous buildings..

and scenery, the foliage is just starting to turn here but the weather was still quite warm...

and finally, who doesn't love a red telephone box...so much more appealing than the chrome and glass things we have...

Thank you Marguerite for your hospitality and it was lovely to finally meet you...sorry I didn't get to meet Rafael though..  :o)

Lovely, lovely photos of a lovely place. I know Marguerite, but only by being blog and email buddies. You two must have had a wonderful time!

Such lovely photos as always. I didn't know that about the Green Man -- so cool! So you and the UK still have phone boxes?? They don't exist in the US anymore.
